10 Places People Visited and Never Want To Return Again. Would You?

Gabrielle Reeder

Do you have a specific place you can't visit? One that stirs up the worst memories or terrible discomfort? A user on a website asked the internet to chime in with the worst places ever visited. Here are some of the most notable responses.

1. Costco

This person vows never to visit Costco on a Saturday. Most of the responses to this comment agree, saying that the weekends bring out the weirdness in Costco customers. One person says they watched a man standing inside the ice cooler.

2. Middle School

Who doesn't want to return to the transition of tweenhood to teenage years? Everyone on this thread. A respondent shares that at age 65, they still consider middle school as the worst years of their lives. Another quips to burn the middle school yearbooks as well.

3. Gary, Indiana

“Geez, man, I had to inspect a property there for work and only knew of the place from the musical The Music Man. Boy, that was an awful sad town,” a person who will never go back to the Midwest town expresses.

4. Mega Church

Most people against mega churches claim the lack of lights disturbs them amongst the smoke machines, lasers, and overwhelming crowds of worshippers. Others believe megachurches resemble socially accepted cults. I must agree with that statement.

5. The Dollar Store

We can't refer to the dollar store as such anymore due to inflation. Now, the reformed dollar store is the Dollar 25 store, yet it continues to flash false advertising with its name. A recent dollar store patron writes a visit to the local shop brings hurt to their heart as they waltz through the shelves stocked with old products.

6. Las Vegas

I will never agree with this, but loads of travelers believe that Vegas is a horrid destination due to the dirty streets and the fast-paced nature of the city. Other Vegas loathers think flashy, selfish individuals fill the city leaving little space for humble humanity.

7. Disney

This one is sure to upset Disney adults.

“On my first trip there, we left on the ferry, and I was scanning the faces of other people on board. What a miserable, grumpy group. And I felt the same way. I have developed a huge loathing for any kind of amusement park. Disney is so fake they can't even have real fish on 20,000 Leagues- just plastic ones wired to the bottom of the pool,” a contributor recalls in response to someone referring to Disney as “disgustingly fake.”

8. Florida

“Humidity, politics, rednecks, endless strip malls, et al., despise it all. The only positive thing I can think of is the unbelievable efficiency of Tampa International (TPA),” a person who grew up in The Sunshine State adds.

The humidity is particularly unbearable this summer.

9. Houston, Texas

Branching off disparaging Florida comments, a few users criticize Houston. The main complaint boils down to the messy highway system and the reckless drivers. One response notes that Houston drivers play bumper cars on the road.

10. Scientology Compound

This being accidentally stumbled upon a Scientology compound while looking for a friend. According to them, the leaders were not shy about demonstrating their animosity.

A few years ago, I attended a concert with my mom near a Scientology compound, and as we walked back to the car, we saw a white van drive by and throw someone in the back of the van. We made no eye contact and powerwalked off that street.
