10 Things That Even Millennials Can’t Argue With Boomers About

Steve Cummings

People that are older or considered Boomers have many opinions on how life used to be. As technology advances, many items that continue to change may not be for the better. We may not always agree with every generation, but here are 10 things most people agree with Boomers.

1. Touchscreens In Cars Are a Bad Idea

These days all vehicles are getting touchscreens. It is the way of the world. We have touchscreen phones, and tablets, and now most cars have them too. The problem is that touchscreens take more focus, so our eyes need to be on them instead of the road. It is much better to have physical buttons. We can change radio stations much more quickly.

2. Everything is a Subscription

Nowadays, everything seems to be a subscription. Anything from music, TV shows, Movies, you name it, is a subscription. People are getting tired of all the subscriptions. It is not just the boomers; it is all generations. Why are there so many subscriptions, and why can’t we make things pay once and be done?

Even Mercedes is offering a subscription. One poster wrote, “Mercedes will offer higher performance on their EVs for a SUBSCRIPTION of $1200?”

3. We Want Human Customer Service Instead of a Bot

Do you get onto those automated message machines or bots that take you forever to get to a customer service rep? Going through five to ten different automated menus has become the norm. All we want is to talk to a customer representative.

4. Physical Media Like Books

Digital media is now the norm for many people. It takes less space and is portable, but in the end, if a file is corrupted or a hard drive or SSD breaks in some way, all that information is gone. Being able to hold physical media like books is such a reaffirming thought. You know that these physical media pieces cannot disappear without a trace.

Plus, many people still enjoy libraries. They are full of books, movies, and music that you can rent easily with a library card.

5. Music in Bars is Too Loud

Have you been to a bar and couldn’t hear a friend or someone talking to you because the music was too loud? Yep, it is not just you. Many people complain about the loud music in bars, stores, and everywhere. How are you supposed to have a good conversation when you are screaming at the top of your lungs?

Music needs to be turned down. We want to hear when we get older.

6. TV is Getting Too Dark

Have you ever noticed that TV shows and movies are getting too dark? It is not depressing but in color. When The Batman came out, there was a meme about how each Batman movie was getting darker and darker. How are we supposed to see everything if it is pitch black? The worse part is that some of these movies and shows are getting quieter.

7. Not Everything Needs an App (Like my Refrigerator)

Why does everything have an app? People’s refrigerators and toothbrushes don’t need wifi and apps. What is the point? Companies want to track data, but a refrigerator is meant to keep things cold, and a good toothbrush is for brushing teeth. What type of data are they collecting anyways?

8. Give Me a Headphone Jack

One of the most annoying things with new devices is the need for a headphone jack. Many people must get adaptors to plug into either the lighting port or the USB-C port to use their headphones. Even in cars, using an Aux cable is much easier than using Bluetooth.

Have you ever tried switching phones for music on a road trip with family? It can be such a headache. Just give me a jack and make it easier.

9. Tipping Is Out of Hand

Have you noticed that everyone, even machine kiosks, wants a tip? Seriously, tipping has gotten out of hand. Restaurant workers get tips because they are paid a low minimum wage of over two dollars, but now everyone wants a tip.

The mechanic for your car wants a tip, the person at a festival who puts the wristband on wants a tip, and even self-service kiosk machines want a tip. It is getting out of hand and even hurting those workers that work for tips.

10. When Walking, Get Off Your Phone

One of the most annoying things is when people walk on sidewalks and are on their phones. They sway back and forth, and people cannot get around them because this person is not aware of their surroundings. They are glued to their phones.
